I chose 4:10 p.m. on Friday to try to get from my office to Union Station. If you’re in Chicago, you know we had a pretty spectacular thunderstorm roll through that afternoon. You know, right about 4:15 or so.
It was pretty much a scene out of Twister. I took the picture below when the storm was still a few miles to the west, and was smart enough to put the camera away before I walked into Armagaeddon, what with all the flying mud, debris and city trash cans. I saw a bike messenger come out of a building, look around, start to unlock his bike, think better of it and walk right back into the office building from which he had come.
They say the wind hit 90 mph in places, and I think I was walking through that spot about 4:20. I actually had to hold my glasses on my face to keep from losing them.
And then the rain started – don’t even get me started on that…
